Te Ao Mārama

In this video, our tamariki share the depth behind our special school name, gifted to us by Dr. Ngapare Hopa, Ngāti Wairere kuia.

Te Ao Mārama literally means the world of light and understanding. Our name derives from the Maori creation story in which Tāne (Māori god of the forest and birds) separated his Sky Father Ranginui and Earth Mother Papatūānuku to create a world of light and life. This world was known as ‘te ao mārama’.
